Sandhoppers Ages 5-7

Sandhoppers is an introduction to Surf Life Saving. It is primarily beach based. However, alongside playing games, children learn about the beach environment and are able to understand the basic theoretical elements of lifeguarding.

As with all sessions, full risk assessments are undertaken prior to the session to determine the sea conditions. If the conditions are favourable and there is sufficient water cover, the children will be able to go in the sea but this may not be every week.

All children will also undertake basic awards in beach knowledge and water skills. We hope that even at this young age, familiarity with the beach and the enthusiasm they have for playing games and learning in a safe and fun environment, that this will be the foundation for building sea confidence in later years.

All sessions are run by experienced sports coaches and qualified lifeguards are present at every session. All session officials are DBS checked and the club operates under the strict safeguarding and child protection policy as approved by SLSGB. (see documents page for pdf. version of the policy).

Mullion SLSC requires that one parent / responsible adult remains on the beach during the session.

Children should wear weather appropriate clothing for beach activities. What begins as a balmy Summer evening soon transforms when the sun dips and the breeze whips up. If your child wishes to go into the sea, a full length wetsuit should be provided and we also recommend surf boots.

We ask that you arrive at a little before the start time of 6pm to ensure that children are signed in to the register, They will be given a cloth surf life saving hat (or tabard) which they must keep on at every session throughout the session.
